For reference, we wore our TX3 approach shoes until the sole was worn down without experiencing any frayed stitches or delamination, and we expect a similar lifespan out of the Nucleo. I used these boots a few times in a few years but the sole fell apart, not possible to repair.La Sportiva Nucleo High II GTX Hiking Boots Reviewįrom our experience, La Sportiva footwear always has been well-made, and the Nucleo High GTX is no exception. That isn't needed in a boot with such a flexible sole. The heel counter is tall and stiff and it tilts forward, digging into the Achilles tendon. It's basically a lightweight stripped down 1960s Jungle Boot with a flat, thin, and flexible sole. The things they got right were sole flex and light weight. I've been wearing minimalist shoes (Xero) for three years now, and I've been looking for a general outdoor boot with the same qualities. Regular boots were Oboz Bridgers (which I love BTW). Might.because they sure do not look sturdy! They are GREAT for walking the dog because I can hose them off and not get my socks wet, as well as being comfy, EZ to get on and off, good traction and light! Recently took them along for stream crossings on a backpack trip Sierras. Although I like them enough I might just try them with a 40-pound pack. These are either mid or high boots and are waterproof hiking boots. For the record, Lowa makes one shoe suitable for backpacking in… Full review Basically no shoe ever fit me well until Oboz came along. In other words, short toes, long arch, narrow foot. I have a foot that is (on a Brannock) size 12 arch, size 11 length size, a "C" width. Saw these on sale and figured why not? Leather, waterproof, and that Oboz fit that is AFAICT unique. But these are so narrow they might be a "B" width. Oboz fit, which is a "C" heel and a "D" toe box. The boots felt really decent until we hiked into the… Full review I don't understand this cult-like following people have for these boots. After getting them broke in months before the trip I figured my feet would be comfortable and happy, not so much. People were falling all over themselves talking these up, so I figured they must be a decent boot. I bought these boots for a long backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon. It is important to remember that these are all-leather boots… Full review They offer great ankle support and protect the soles of my feet from loose rocks on the trail. I wore them inside for a few weeks a few hours at a time to facilitate the break-in period. Mary’s Falls in the North Cheyenne Canon Park, Manitou, CO ready for the next adventure my traveling companions break-in period Purchased in November '21, these boots have thus far served me well. ![]() No issues with moisture or water or heat. These are supportive boots, which I need cause I have ankle issues past. Very comfortable, stock footbed works well. The laces do slip, fixed with new laces, I like 63-inch Deleles but might get by with 59-inch. Use Nikwax spray for the leather. FYI, Asics running shoe in a 12 wide also fit me great. ![]() Which means might not fit you because I have an unusual foot. 12.5 USA is bigger than 29.5 But I was getting a… Full reviewīest backpacking boot yet. Most mondopoint 12 hiking boots are 29.5 La Sportiva is less than 29.5 So La Sportiva is definitely smaller if you go by USA size. Since La Sportiva have a reputation for being narrow I figured they might fit my narrow heel wide toe foot. Emailed La Sportiva they told me their wide in this shoe (and the Raptor BTW) is only wide in the toe box area. Temp Control: With the proper… Full review Support: The design of the tread allows one to negotiate rocky terrain and not create pinpoint stabbing to your heel, arch, and toe box. Fit: My custom orthotics added a huge plus to the comfort of the shoe for long distance hiking. Spectacular traction on wet rocks and smooth surfaces. The Vibram tread holds up well and self-cleans mud/debris. I own/wore two pair on the Appalachian Trail and have zero complaints for the La Sportiva Nucleo High II GTX.
